Silence is not neutrality… And advocacy is no longer optional.

When our national politicians reflect a realty that is too hard to manage spiritually and practically, you turn to those who can inspire hope and change like a lifeline.

We swim in contaminated water, my friends.

Between Title III funding cuts, the dismantling of essential English language acquisition supports, and the fear rippling through Chicago schools from ICE raids, the landscape has fundamentally shifted. If promises have been kept by those in power, it is time for us to keep ours. Silence is no longer neutrality, mi gente—it is an absence of action where it matters most. Advocacy is no longer optional; it has become our primary professional responsibility.

This work is not about politics as an abstract ideology; it is fundamentally about safety, access, and the inherent dignity of multilingual learners and their families. Advocacy today looks different than it did a decade ago. It is more sober, more urgent, and more vital than ever. If you are feeling the weight of this moment, know that you are not weak. You are simply paying attention.

That’s exactly why I created Advocacy in Scary Political Times.

This workshop isn’t about being loud.
It’s about being strategic, grounded, and sustainable.

Together, we focus on:

  • What advocacy is, and what it isn’t

  • How the Monolingual Bias shows up during political pressure

  • Practical frameworks for responding in tense moments

  • Protecting yourself while still protecting students

  • Moving from fear to clarity to action

This is the session districts request when:

  • Teachers feel frozen

  • Leaders feel the weight of responsibility

  • Communities feel fractured

  • And “just stay neutral” is doing real harm

If your staff is navigating fear, confusion, or urgency right now, this workshop gives them language, structure, and support… without asking them to be reckless or exhausted.

Advocacy doesn’t mean sacrificing yourself. It means learning how to act with intention, even when the moment is heavy. I’m here to help you do that. Click here to learn more about the workshop.
